Nico’s third place at Albert Park was the first time a Rosberg had finished on an F1 podium since the 1986 Monaco Grand Prix, when Keke finished second to Alain Prost. Keke wasn’t in Melbourne to watch today’s race – “I stayed home and watched it live. Don’t tell me, I missed out on quite a lot of champagne?” – but he can rest assured that the Rosberg dynasty is in safe hands.
Rubens Barrichello could barely walk after the Australian GP, having burnt his feet on the pedals of his Honda. “I lost my bumper ride at the first pitstop,” he said. “The conditions on my feet were very hot after that. I burned them quite badly on the sides as it was so damned hot.” Ouch!
It wasn’t a great weekend for Aussie hero Mark Webber. He spun out of Q2 following a brake failure on Saturday and he crashed out of the race on lap one. Still, he came out with the quote of the weekend after his disappointment in qualifying: “It’s lucky we don’t build aeroplanes.” Indeed.
